Q: Would you recommend Boot Camps for weight loss? Pamela R.
A: Boot Camps are a growing trend in the United States and actually in major cities throughout the world. Boot Camps were initially run by military individuals turned personal trainers. Clients of these people were put through military workouts and the Camps were designed to get people fit quickly. Boot Camps have morphed over the past few years into group training programs done by personal trainers in various location: gyms, parks, walking trails, or any other recreational area you can imagine. The purpose of having multiple locations is to make fitness functional and to help people understand that exercise can be done almost anywhere.
Boot Camps allow people the opportunity to learn how to use their own body weight and simple exercise equipment to get into shape. Boot Camps also make it convenient for the individuals involved to get out and to meet new people. There is a great sense of community in the the Boot Camp groups. The groups have the opportunity to experience many different venues, temperatures, and weather.
Boot Camps are great for people trying to lose weight if they are working with a fitness company that provides nutrition, strength training, and cardio as part of their camps. Boot Camps should solve some very fundamental issues associated with weight loss which are accountability, support, and motivation. Generally, the instructor or personal trainer running the Boot Camps teaches basic nutrition principles for weight loss that everyone should be following as well as other self directed workouts to do outside of the class. As long as you are burning more calories than you are taking in you should be losing weight.
Boot Camps are generally a low cost solution to working with a well trained personal trainer. If you can’t afford to work with a personal trainer one on one, but still want the help of a professional Boot Camps are the way to go. Working with a group of like minded people will keep you motivated and they will generally offer you the support and encouragement you need to be successful. A good personal trainer will also keep you accountable to your goals and make sure you are following a healthy eating program for weight loss.
