Unless you’ve been banished to an island with no contact of any kind with human beings or social media outlets, you’ve heard of the vuvuzela horn. In the unlikely case that you haven’t heard of them, just imagine Lloyd Christmas’ version of the most annoying sound in the world, multiply it by 50,000 people, and have it last for 90 minutes nonstop. Would you like to start Googling home remedies for bleeding ear drums now or later?
The World Cup is underway and for some reason South Africans have decided that a long plastic horn is the best way to show support for their country’s soccer, ahem, football team. And I thought the cowbell was bad…
I bring up the vuvuzela horn because my goal is to share something with you here at AskFitnessCoach that is the exact opposite.
Instead of monotone, dragging, and utterly annoying, I aim to bring you a fresh perspective. I want to talk about health, weight loss, and fitness in a way that it relates to the everyman (or everywoman for that matter). It’s one thing to have a chiseled-bodied specimen give you the ins and outs of nutrition and exercise, but for me, that’s pretty hard to relate to. Thatswhatshesaid.
I know for me it’s easier to relate with someone who has been where I’ve been. I like to hear about the father of two who worked two jobs and still found time to turn that beer gut into something a tad more appealing (the beer belly?). I relate with that guy and I want to hear about how he made changes in his life.
I want to be that guy for you. Less than a year ago I weighed 400 pounds. Today, I weigh 398 pounds. Inspirational right? OK, honestly, I’ve lost 140 pounds in the last year and it has literally changed my life.
I must have used some type of surgery right? Wrong.
You are probably wondering which diet pills I used though right? Ummm… no pills.
I don’t tell you this to toot my own
vuvuzela horn. I tell you so that you know I’ve been there. I’ve been in your shoes. I’m still in your shoes. Heck, at 260 I’m still no Tony Danza (he’s still the commonly recognized fitness icon he used to be right?). I still have 30 or 35 pounds left to lose of my own.
I’m going to be right here working alongside you. I’m going to give you my real life perspective and take on getting fit and living a healthier lifestyle. If you can commit to working with me and getting yourself back in the game, I’ll commit to bringing you the best of me every Monday morning; sans 3 foot plastic horns.
Check back for more from Ryan every Monday morning. If once a week isn’t enough, you can read more of Ryan’s ridiculousness at nomorebacon.com.
