The 4 things that helped me lose my baby weight


I have talked about this in previous posts, but just about three months ago I had a little baby boy. I gained 30 pounds during my pregnancy and I was determined to lose every last pound. Before I found I was pregnant I was in really good shape. I was at my ideal size and I was a regular at the gym. I ate healthy and I felt great! I tried to workout throughout my pregnancy but I was sick through most of my pregnancy and by the time I stopping throwing up I was ginormous and didn’t feel much like workout out every day. So the second I had my Tommy I was determined to get back to my pre pregnancy size and weight.

My sister is getting married in the Spring and I am one of the bridesmaids so that has been my motivation. So far I am happy with my results. I am back in my pre pregnancy pants and I only have a few more pounds to lose before I am back to where I started. Want to know my secrets? Let me tell you…

1. Water, water, and just when you think you’ve had enough, drink more water.

I drink so much water. I have a 32 ounce mug and I refill that sucker 3 or 4 times a day. When I feel hungry I always drink some water to make sure I’m not really just thirsty. For the most part I have eliminated all other drinks except for water.. no more coke or juice..

2. Peanut butter chocolate bars and chocolate milkshakes.

OK so they probably aren’t the peanut butter bars and chocolate milkshakes you are thinking of. The bars and shakes I have been using come from IdealShape. IdealShape sells meal replacement shakes and bars and let me tell you what… they work WONDERS! I have never been a very big breakfast person. In fact, when I wake up I usually don’t have an appetite at all. I know that I need to eat so right when I wake up I either eat a bar or drink a shake. I love that I am getting all the nutrients that I need and the appetite suppressant  is awesome.

3. Bye bye sugar.

I have always had a bit of a sweet tooth but while I was pregnant it was out of control. I craved treats all  the time! It was insane. I knew that to lose weight I had to control that sweet tooth of mine. So I have pretty much eliminated artificial sugars from my diet. Sounds a little extreme doesn’t it? It is tough but not too tough because I have one cheat day each week. I usually plan my cheat day for Sunday and I eat whatever I want, whenever I want and I do it completely guilt free. It has been hard because I got in a bad habit of having some sort of treat every day but when I am feeling like eating something sweet I have an IdealShape shake or bar or I have some fruit. I love making a fruit smoothie! It makes me feel like I am cheating.. but I’m not.

4. I took the challenge!

My last secret weapon is the 12 week shape up challenge. I started the challenge a couple of weeks ago and it has been kicking my butt! In a good way of course. The challenge incorporates active stretching, core workouts, and a good balance of cardio and strength training. The workouts take 20-30 minutes and by the end I am way more tired than an hour spent at the gym! If you are interested in the challenge check it out here.
