Fitness can be as simple as diet and exercise, so why does it sometimes seem so complicated?
I am going to cut out the fluff and give you the ultra simplified, bare bones, of what you really need to get a fit body. Have you ever heard the phrase, “physique is 20% workout 80% diet”? We all know that we’ll look and feel better when we eat healthy, yet so many of us struggle to actually follow a consistent nutritious meal plan.
All 6 of those are extremely common reasons we fall of the meal plan bandwagon. Heck, you might’ve even fallen prey to more than one of these pesky pitfalls! I sure have before.
Starting Too Strict
A few months ago my close friend started a meal plan that consisted: of protein powder, chicken, veggies, protein powder, veggies, protein powder…you get the point.
It was only a matter of hours before her Chipotle and Ben & Jerry’s cravings struck. Hard.
The meal plan was way too strict, way too boring, and essentially just not satisfying enough to stick to. If you’ve ever started a diet, you’ve probably experienced this.

Another reason these meal plans fail is, simply put, time. Who really has hours on end to cut veggies, buy fresh groceries, cook meat, and spice, flavor, and assemble every meal?
Waking up early to prepare meals happens about once in a blue moon for me. And with Chick Fil A and Cafe Rio being just a stone’s throw from my office, it’s so convenient and quick to just eat out.
(And based on the long lunchtime lines, I know I’m not the only one with a weakness for quick convenient food).
So, if a meal plan is going to work, it HAS to be convenient. We can’t be expected to shop, chop, and cook hours a day! It may sound reasonable on day one. But by day 7 most of us have fallen off the healthy cooking wagon.
