Want Faster Results? How BCAAs Can Help You

The most common question I get asked is: “How can I get faster results?  I’m working out, eating healthy, and trying to do everything right, but I’m just not getting the results I want.”

This is such a common question.  I bet you’ve asked this yourself.

Of course, your transformation is a process.  It won’t happen in a night and it’s important to be patient.

However, there is one thing you can do, aside from exercise and diet, to get faster results and overcome plateaus.

The answer? BCAA supplements.  (Don’t know what that is? We’ll get there!)

Now, BCAAs are not some magical powder you can pour in your drink and then immediately look like a body builder.

Your results might not be as quick as this guy!

But there are some really impressive results you can get from taking BCAAs and I want to tell you about them!  In this article, I will tell you what BCAAs are, what difference they can make from you, and which BCAAs are my favorite.

BCAAs in 2 Minutes

BCAA stands for Branched Chain Amino Acids.

Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.  They build up muscle and repair muscle after breakdown.  So taking amino acid supplements helps you get those gains, and prevents your muscles from wasting away.

There are 22 amino acids in your body, but 3 major ones that are particularly good for repair.  These 3 are the amino acids that make up BCAA supplements:

  • Leucine
  • Isoleucine
  • Valine

Leucine is helpful in muscle repair.  Have you ever been sore after a workout?  (I mean who hasn’t?).  Well leucine is an amino acid that can help you repair your muscles and recover quicker.  It helps prevent your muscles from being “eaten up” due to calorie deficits, hard workouts, or stress.

Isoleucine helps your body utilize carbs for energy.  This helps fuel your workout and it allows your body to use up your carbs rather than store them.  Your body will energy from your diet rather than from breaking down your muscles to fuel your workout.

Valine works to build muscle, repair tissue, and boost energy.

Enough science, what do BCAAs actually do for you?

BCAAs Stop Catabolism

What is catabolism?  (Not cannibalism, don’t worry).

Catabolism is muscle breakdown.

When you are dieting, your body breaks down fat cells to use for energy.  That’s what we want, right?  But, the bad news is your body also breaks down muscle to use for energy.

That’s the last thing you want when you’re dieting!

Karina Elle BCAAs

If you are trying to lose some fat, but not muscle, BCAAs are very valuable.

A lot of research has been done to show that BCAAs increase the rate of protein synthesis (muscle growth), and decrease the rate of catabolism (muscle breakdown).

So that means you can diet, exercise, burn fat, and your muscles will stay nice and lean.

Would You Rather…

Would you rather your body use your carbs or store them as fat?

I think most of us can agree that we’d rather use carbs for energy!

That’s exactly what BCAAs help you with.  BCAAs (Isoleucine specifically) increase your body’s ability to use carbs for fuel.  This means your body will burn the carbs you eat more efficiently, rather than storing them on your hips!

If you’re already working out and eating healthy, BCAAs can push your fat loss to the next level.  They are not a miracle pill, but they are proven to help enhance your body’s ability to use energy rather than store it as fat.

Superhero Power

Maybe there’s actually some truth to that video, that BCAAs give you superhero power!  BCAAs have been shown to improve performance and reduce fatigue.

This means you can train a bit longer and a bit more intense than you could without BCAAs which will definitely speed up your results!

Hi, I am taking BCAA during my workout and I also eat healthy. So how can I lose more fat. I mean to become more toned Should I take some fat burner or should I just do some cardio after each workout.

    Thanks

  2. Melissa

I take bcaa’s and protein shakes and workout 5 days a week and can not lose weight. Been working out almost 5 weeks really hard and eat all low carb. Any suggestions?

    1. Lexi

Check your measurements and body fat %. You may be changing your body composition more than your weight. Also, “calories in calories out” if you are working out and dieting you need to accurately track everything. 3500 calorie = 1lb. So in order to lose 1 lb a week that should be your calorie deficit.

    2. Alexandria

If you eat low carb all of the time it slows your metabolism down, so you have probably hit a plateau. I would suggest looking into carb cycling. This way your body never really adapts.

I am interested in adding BCAA’s to my regimen but I am still breastfeeding. I understand that amino acids are natural but I am wondering about the fat loss blend that is in the ideallean ingredients. Are there any professionals who understand how thermodiamine and the Tonalin effects breast milk? Does anyone have experience with it? Thank you!

There are no major side effects with BCAAs. If you are sensitive to certain sweeteners you might have some effects but other than that you shouldn’t have a problem.

      1. Liz

Isn’t artificial sweeteners bad for you and can cause cancer? I was told to go with a protein powder with no artificial sweeteners.

There is not sufficient evidence to prove that sucralose causes cancer. More than 100 scientific studies over a 20 year period have demonstrated the safety of sucralose. Importantly, comprehensive toxicology studies, designed to meet the highest scientific standards, have clearly demonstrated that sucralose is not carcinogenic. The data from the studies were independently evaluated by international experts in a variety of scientific disciplines, including toxicology, oncology, teratology, neurology, hematology, pediatrics and nutrition.

    Hi
I take C4 pre-work out drink each day before my scheduled class. Orange Dreamsicle Flavor. I want to include you BCAA product. Can I mix your orange paradise with my C-4 . Would this be safe? C-4 works really great for me. I am thin and need more muscle tone. I hope to also try you Pre- workout flavors

      Hey Ellen,

You would probably be fine to mix the BCAAs with your pre-workout, the only concern is both contain decent amounts of vitamin B12 so you might want to check with your doctor to make sure this is safe for you. You can find more pre-workout flavors for IdealLean here: https://idealfit.com/pre-workout/

Is this a pre workout drink? I am actually wanting a good one. I do not want one that will make you jittery and crush.

What if I don’t want to loose weight, instead I would just like to tone and gain muscle.. Could I still use BCAA?

I just had a baby a month ago and I’m getting ready to start working out again. For years I’ve had problems keeping weight on due to a hyperactive thyroid and a very high metabolism. I want to maintain my current weight while toning the fat into muscle. What products would you recommend for that? On a daily basis my body naturally burns close to 3000 calories with little to no activity. (Its not as awesome as it sounds.)

    1. Amy Posey

A protein powder could help you with your calorie intake and building lean muscle! Also, BCAAs can help you retain muscle rather that using it for energy, helping you look more toned.

  16. Cassy

Its say to take BCAA before/after and especially during a workout and on rest days? So we should be taking them 2 or 3 times a day 7 days a week?

I recently went on a diet which consisted on less than 1000 calories, I was at the same time lifting and running a lot. I have now been told by couple of trainers that I need to gain some weight, which I don’t really want but I can tell though that I my body is in catabolism , u am very frustrated , I would like to fix it. I am trying to eat more protein and carbs but I am not seeing any changes . Could I fix it? Is it going to get better? And how long is it going to take , I am not gaining .

    1. Amy Posey
      Amy Posey

Hey Lynnette, just keep being consistent! Both losing weight and gaining weight takes time but it will happen! If you don’t see any significant change after a month, add an extra 200 calories to your caloric intake.

  19. Angela

I am interested in using this type of product but I stay away from sucralose and red dye. They aren’t good for you

What about perimenopausal women? Whatever I do in terms of exercise or however little I eat, I DO not lose weight. It’s frustrating.

    1. Amy Posey
      Amy Posey

That can be super frustrating. You might try switching gears and try building muscle for a while. Enjoy eating a little more and working hard in the gym (or at home). Put on some lean mass and then after a while go back to a fat loss program.

You take BCAA’s during exercise on the days you workout or in between meals on an empty stomach. On the days you don’t work out you can sip on it throughout the day or in between meals on an empty stomach.

What about if your out of shape and haven’t worked out in a few years and just starting to walk a few times a week. I don’t use weights yet either… Should I consider bcaa’s

Hi I just finished chemo treatment end of July of this year and with my treatment I was given steroids! Before I started treatment I was 130 and I worked out regularly and also was cycling 3 days a week. Now I’m 160 🙁 I tried to work out during treatment but I just could do it I was very weak and sick all the time. I have great muscle memory but the extra water weight/fat I’m miserable I’m so out of shape! What can you suggest?

  24. Michelle

Can you take BCAA along with your pre-workout and boost? They are all ideallean brand! I already bought them all and not sure if it’s safe to take them all!

    1. Amy Posey
      Amy Posey

Yes they are all safe to take together! Just don’t exceed 400mg of caffeine each day. Pre-workout has 150mg and boost only has 80mg so if you take each once daily, you won’t have a problem 🙂
