It shouldn’t be new to anyone that the overweight and obesity rates have been continually climbing over the last 30 years. Obesity is becoming the most significant threat to the health of our nation. Obesity is a major player in the cause of diabetes, heart disease, and strokes just to name a few. Being at a normal weight has become not normal to such an extent that over 66% of Americans are overweight or obese.
Ok. So we know that obesity is a major problem, that is apparent, but what is the cause? This could be debated for hours on end but more than likely the cause isn’t one thing. Here is some of the ideas from a focus group: increased consumption of sugar, laziness, lack of activity, fast food, and the increased busyness of life.
What is the solution? Millions if not billions of dollars have been spent on combating the obesity epidemic. Major companies have created best selling products that are suppose to get you to a healthy weight and keep you there. Corporations have instituted wellness programs for their employees to help them get fit. The government has even done some promotion of the importance of getting to a healthy weight. And America just keeps packing on the pounds.
Obesity is an issue that is close to my heart because many of the people I work with are overweight or obese. The great thing is the people I work with are taking steps to get to a healthy weight. The path isn’t always easy but there are basic healthy practices that must be followed. The support of others is essential to making this happen.
As part of an effort to educate and create awareness about obesity and create a place to get and give support. I have started a campaign called Get Fit USA. By clicking the link you can join the fan page and join the mission to eat right and workout obesity.
The most important part of this campaign is getting as many people involved as possible. It will require the sharing of this article and the fan page with as many people as possible in the beginning. Future opportunities will be available to take a more active part.
Let us know in the comments what you think is the cause of obesity? And what is the solution?
And please support the cause to raise awareness about obesity and to support each other.
